Not yet, but I'm like you - I'll get as soon as released. Only other band did that with in recent years (well, not so recent anymore...) was T Heads. Used to do w/ REM and Nick Cave but bought some clunkers there...

You guys are WAY too on top of things...but, it is an interesting question: over your lifetime, what are (were) the bands/ind's for which you simply grabbed it the day you saw it appear at Tower Records?

For me, it was only ever the DEAD, CCR and...yes...CREAM. I think for everyone else I had to have heard something to be sure, but I always was a penny pincher (of course, albums went for $3.19 back then).

I did change this approach in 1978 when I saw HHtheFool in the used record shop (Moe's) on Telegraph within 48 hrs of release (I bought it, listened once, and thought--never again will I buy a DEAD related release without investigating first).

For me, it was Joni, Leo and the Dead. That ended with Go to Heaven....

All those albums never fail.

edit: and for a while, David Bromberg. The old coot has a new release out featuring collaborations with some great artists, including Levon Helm and Los Lobos.

Originally Beatles, Hendrix, Cream, and Floyd (that ended with the ghastly DSOTM). Then GD, Hawkwind, Gong, Man, and every release by John Martyn. I bought every Dick's Pick as they came out.

Does anyone else go to second hand record shops or stalls to fill in the gaps in their LP collection ? I lived in a squat with at least 6 record players so some got lost along the way, and others weren't bought as someone else already had one.

Scarcely any 'ares' these days (times are tough) but the 'weres' included:

Neil Young
Warren Zevon
Richard (and Linda) Thompson
Nick Lowe
Dave Edmunds
Steely Dan
Blue Oyster Cult (oh yes...)
Gong

Really I was (am) too busy trying to be Mr Eclectic and working on the back catalogue to keep right up to date with new stuff, But I tried, oh how I tried...

I'll do it with Ween too no question. Used to Los Lobos but now I wait awhile and end up buying them too. Can't remember being disappointed

Talking new albums, I'm really really looking forward to giving the new Gillian Welch album a listen (8 years since the last one, not counting the Dave Rawlings Machine at the end of '09?). They could perform the phonebook and I'd pay up to hear it.

She just played Henry Miller Library and is playing Santa Cruz next week - a Henry Miller Library/folkYEAH co-production!

Of course, she and dave are on ryan's first solo disc - Heartbreaker (as is Emmylou).
